QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd lose 2-1 to Al-Wakrah

2 min read

Al-Sadd fell to a 2-1 defeat to Al-Wakrah in the QNB Stars League Round 12 match played on Thursday at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium.

The result means that Al-Sadd remain with 18 points from 10 games, with two postponed games against Al-Arabi and Al-Khor yet to be played.

Mohammed Benyettou gave Al-Wakrah the lead in the 8th minute with a powerful strike from the edge of the box that left Al-Sadd goalkeeper Saad Al-Dosari with no chance of saving it.

In the 21st minute, Al-Sadd had an opportunity to equalise when they were awarded a penalty for a foul by Bruno Uvini on Baghdad Bounedjah. The Algerian striker stepped up and took the kick but his effort was saved by Al-Wakrah custodian Hassan Idris.

Al-Wakrah doubled their lead in the 38th minute through Omar Ali, whose shot from inside the box deflected in off Bounedjah.

Al-Sadd tried hard to get back into the game in the second half but could not find the target until the 85th minute, when Hassan Al-Haydos converted a low cross to make it 2-1. However, despite their best efforts in the end, Al-Sadd could not score another goal and the match went on to end in a 2-1 win for Al-Wakrah.
