Yasser Abubakr: Delighted to join Al-Sadd; I hope I can be a good addition

Al-Sadd’s new signing Yasser Abubakr could not hide his happiness when asked to describe his decision to join the club. “I want to congratulate myself for joining this club!” he said, adding that Al-Sadd are one of the biggest clubs in Qatar with a history filled with titles.

Speaking to the club website in an exclusive interview at the preseason camp in Bad Häring, Yasser also described his objectives for the new season. “There are a lot of talented players at Al-Sadd. I hope I can gain the trust of the management and give my best alongside this group of players in order to win titles. My aim is to win the league with the Wolves and a bigger dream is to win the Asian title.”

Yasser went on to state that he had received offers from other clubs but preferred to join Al-Sadd. “I got many offers but my desire to join Al-Sadd trumped everything. There were also many friends who supported me and encouraged me to accept Al-Sadd’s offer and join the (two-time) Asian champions. This move is the first step for me. I want to add to this team’s strength and I hope I can impress everyone.”

Asked about the level of competition in the upcoming season, Yasser said that the new Duhail club (formed after the merger of Lekhwiya and El-Jaish) would be a strong opponent, in addition to Al-Rayyan. “Therefore we must work hard, especially in this preseason phase so that we can be fully prepared ahead of the start of the new season,” added the defender.

Yasser is also a Qatari international and he was asked about his time with the national team. He said: “Of course did not perform as well as we should have. We promise everyone that we will be better in the coming games.”

The newcomer went on to conclude by saying: “I have a message for the Al-Sadd fans who supported me during the time of the negotiations with the club. I promise them that I will always give the best I have and I won’t disappoint them. The Al-Sadd fans deserve to be happy. We expect to see them at the stadium.”
