QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd return to form, with 5-1 win over Umm Salal

Al-Sadd got back to winning ways in the QNB Stars League with a huge 5-1 victory over Umm Salal in the round 11 game played at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium on Friday evening.

This result means that Al-Sadd reach a tally of 20 points and climb to second place in the league table, with two delayed games in hand.

Pedro opened the scoring in the 20th minute for Al-Sadd. After a cross from Xavi on the left fell at his feet in the box, the defender sent a powerful strike towards the far corner of Umm Salal goalkeeper Basil Zaidan to make it 1-0.

Hassan Al-Haydos then doubled Al-Sadd’s lead in the 29th minute, with a cool finish after being set up by Baghdad Bounedjah’s precise through ball between two defenders.

In the 33rd minute, Umm Salal reduced the deficit after captain Yannick Sagbo scored with a close-range effort to finish off a deflected cross from Mahmoud Al Mawas.

After halftime, Al-Sadd continued in the same offensive manner and Xavi soon made it 3-1 to his side in the 55th minute, dispatching Abdelkarim Hassan’s squared pass with ease.

Akram Afif then got on the scoresheet in the 69th minute after a fine passing move that involved Gabi, Al-Haydos and Bounedjah. The ball was finally moved across by Bounedjah for Afif to dink past Zaidan and put Al-Sadd 4-1 in front.

Al-Sadd went on to end the game with a 5-1 result after Afif got a second goal for himself in the 87th minute by finishing off Xavi’s pass.
