QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd put five past Qatar SC to remain on top
Al-Sadd maintained their position on top of the QNB Stars League table after a 5-1 victory over Qatar SC in the Round 7 game that was played at the Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium.
Hamid Ismail opened the scoring in the 13th minute, after slamming in the rebound once Xavi’s free-kick was deflected off the wall.
In the 20th minute, Baghdad Bounedjah scored his 14th goal of the campaign and made it 2-0 to Al-Sadd, by finishing off Abdelkarim Hassan’s first-time cross.
Akram Afif then scored Al-Sadd’s third goal, slipping the ball past the advancing keeper Jassim Al Hail after a fine through ball from Xavi.
Qatar SC pulled a goal back in the 40th minute and it came from Samuel Eto’o whose fierce shot from inside the box left Meshaal Barsham with no chance.
After taking a 3-1 lead into halftime, Al-Sadd were given a chance to make it 4-1 in the 49th minute when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Ali Asad in the box. Bounedjah stepped up but fired his shot over the bar to miss out on another goal for himself.
Al-Sadd did manage to score again and this time it was Xavi who got it. The maestro curled in a superb free-kick over the wall to put Al-Sadd 4-1 in front.
Head coach Jesualdo Ferreira made two changes at once in the 78th minute, bringing on Ahmed Sayyar and Yasir Abubakar in place of Xavi and Abdelkarim Hassan. Later, he sent on Musab Kheder to replace Hamid Ismail in the 85th minute. Deep into added time, substitute Sayyar got his name on the scoresheet after scoring Al-Sadd’s fifth goal with a shot from inside the box.
