QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd impress in a 6-1 win over Al-Arabi

2 min read

Al-Sadd got back to winning ways in the QNB Stars League with an impressive 6-1 comeback win over Al-Arabi in the postponed Round 5 game, which was played at the Grand Hamad Stadium on Monday.

The result means that Al-Sadd increase their tally to 21 points in the league table after 11 games, with one more postponed game to be played against Al-Khor.

It was Al-Arabi who took the lead at their home ground, with Marc Muniesa scoring in the 10th minute. A long throw-in from Aron Gunnarsson into the Al-Sadd box was not cleared by the defence and the ball fell at the feet of Muniesa, who tapped in from close range.

The Al-Sadd reply came in the 30th minute through Pedro Miguel, who went up forward and sent a powerful shot from distance past the goalkeeper Gregory Gomis to level the scores.

Just a minute later, Baghdad Bounedjah put Al-Sadd in front, volleying in past Gomis after a superb aerial pass from captain Gabi in midfield.

Hassan Al-Haydos then made it 3-1 to Al-Sadd in the 35th minute, taking advantage of a headed back-pass from Fahad Shanin to lob the ball over the keeper and slot it in.

The first half would end with that scoreline but after the break, Al-Haydos resumed Al-Sadd’s scoring, getting his second goal in the 54th minute. Akram Afif sent in a cross from the left and Al-Haydos was in the right place to head in Al-Sadd’s fourth goal.

In the 74th minute, Afif got on the scoresheet. After some brilliant passing between Bounedjah, Gabi and Ali Asad, the ball was played across to Afif in the box, and the 23-year-old made no mistake with his left-footed shot to make it 5-1.

Al-Sadd’s sixth and final goal arrived in the 81st minute through Bounedjah. Pedro sent in a low cross from the right, which evaded the arms of Gomis and fell to Bounedjah, who had the simple task of finishing into an empty net.
