QNB Stars League: Afif nets a hat-trick as Al-Sadd defeat Al-Sailiya 3-0

2 min read

Akram Afif scored a hat-trick as Al-Sadd registered a fine 3-0 win over Al-Sailiya in the QNB Stars League Round 14 clash held on Saturday at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

The result saw Al-Sadd climb to second place in the league table temporarily, awaiting the result of the game between Al-Duhail and Al-Rayyan.

Al-Sadd took the lead in the third minute, when Afif slammed in the rebound after Khalifa Abubakar kept out Baghdad Bounedjah’s initial shot.

In the 25th minute, the Wolves thought they had doubled the lead, when Ali Asad, the captain for the game, converted past the keeper. However, the effort was ruled out as Abdelkarim Hassan was deemed to be in an offside position before crossing the ball.

Al-Sadd went into halftime with a 1-0 lead but would soon extend their advantage once the second half started. Two minutes in, Afif was fouled in the Al-Sailiya penalty box by Mohammed Mudather. The 2019 Asian Player of the Year stepped up to take the penalty and scored his and Al-Sadd’s second goal.

Five minutes later, Afif completed his hat-trick in stlye. Bounedjah played a great pass to send him through, before the 23-year-old Qatari international deftly dinked the ball over and past Khalifa Abubakar from a very acute angle.

Al-Sadd created many more opportunities to score in the second half, but the score remained 3-0 as they failed to convert and that’s how the game would go on to end. Hussam Kamal came on in the 84th minute, replacing Pedro to make his first appearance since returning to the club.
