Al-Sadd sporting director Mohammed Gholam Al-Baloushi expressed his confidence in his side’s ability to reach the semifinals of the AFC Champions League, after the quarterfinal draw placed Al-Sadd alongside Esteghlal FC of Iran.
Speaking after the draw on Wednesday, Al-Baloushi said: “All the teams in the quarterfinals are strong and we are used to this. I am happy that we have avoided Al-Duhail; this could mean that both Al-Sadd and Al-Duhail could make it to the semifinals.”
He added: “Iranian teams are always strong at home. We have done well in the group stage and I hope that will continue and that we can keep giving our best so as to reach the semifinals.”
“I have confidence in the Al-Sadd stars. They will work on making use of opportunities and will make the fans happy, as they did in the previous games.”
“We won the title in 2011 while playing away from home. Hopefully, this time we can win it again on our ground.”
As for possible new signings, the sporting director said: “I don’t want to talk about new signings now. We will announce everything when the time is right.”
Al-Baloushi also spoke about the importance of fan support and the need to stand behind the team during this important and tough period. “Al-Sadd and Al-Duhail do not just represent themselves, rather they represent Qatari football. We hope we can see the fans of every club stand behind the teams during these times.”
