Al-Sadd return to winning ways with 6-0 triumph over Al-Sailiya
In a heavily one-sided game, Al-Sadd marked their return to winning ways with a huge 6-0 victory over Al-Sailiya in Round 13 of the QNB Stars League on Saturday.
Jugurtha Hamroun scored in the 32nd and 38th minutes to give Al-Sadd a 2-0 lead at halftime before another flurry of goals in the second half saw the Wolves extend their advantage, as Hamid Ismail, Hassan Al-Haydos and Ali Asad netted in the 64th, 65th and 68th minutes respectively. Al-Haydos wrapped up the scoring by converting an 82nd minute penalty, which was given after George Kwesi was sent off for handball in the box.
The result means that Al-Sadd remain in second place in the league standings with 31 points, four behind the league leaders Al-Duhail.
The game began with Al-Sadd quickly taking control in midfield and refusing their opponents space or time on the ball. However, despite the domination, Al-Sadd could not manage to break the deadlock in the opening third of the match.
The closest the Wolves came to scoring was in the 25th minute when Al-Haydos sent a shot at goal from the edge of the penalty box, but the Al-Sailiya goalkeeper was on hand to keep it out.
Al-Sadd kept up the pressure and were finally rewarded in the 32nd minute when Ali Asad dribbled into the Al-Sailiya box and squared the ball for Hamroun to tap into an empty net.
Six minutes later, Al-Sadd were 2-0 up. After picking up a pass from Xavi, Hamroun got past two defenders and the goalkeeper before netting from an angle to grab his second goal of the game.
Halftime would only be a brief pause as Al-Sadd resumed their offensive play in the second half. Boualem Khoukhi and Hamroun both missed their chances to extend the lead but more goals would come midway through the half.
First, it was Hamid who smashed in after a pass from Pedro to make it 3-0 in the 62nd minute. Within two minutes, Al-Haydos got on the scoresheet after his powerful effort left the keeper with no chance.
In the 68th minute, Ali Asad put his mark on the game by heading in a cross from Hamid to give his side a 5-0 lead.
Al-Sadd were given another opportunity to score after they were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute, after Al-Sailiya defender Kwesi was sent off after blocked a goalbound shot with his hand inside the box.
Al-Haydos stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to take the score to 6-0 and give Al-Sadd a big boost in confidence.
