Al-Haydos’ hat-trick powers Al-Sadd to 5-1 win derby win over Al-Arabi

2 min read

A hat-trick from Hassan Al-Haydos powered Al-Sadd to a big 5-1 win over Al-Arabi in the QNB Stars League Round 17 match played here at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Saturday.

The result means Al-Sadd will raise their points tally to 43 and maintain their second place position in the league standings.

Al-Sadd took the lead in the 7th minute through a free-kick from Al-Haydos, whose effort sailed into the goal past Al-Arabi goalkeeper Muhannad Naim.

Two minutes later, Al-Sadd doubled their advantage through Al-Haydos again. The forward was the first to react after Naim parried Abdelkarim Hassan’s cross and he smashed the ball in from close range to make it 2-0.

Within moments, Al-Arabi reduced the deficit through Brazilian midfielder Diego Jardel whose stinging shot from outside the box could not be stopped by Al-Sadd custodian Saad Al-Dosari.

After the rush of goals in the opening minutes, a period of calm descended on the game and the first half went on to end with Al-Sadd leading 2-1.

In the second half, Al-Sadd extended their lead further with a 57th minute goal from Abdelkarim, who struck with an unstoppable left-footed strike from more than 20 yards out. The full-back thus got his name on the scoresheet for the first time since returning to the club in January.

Al-Sadd didn’t take much time to score their fourth goal and it came from Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah in the box, who sent a low shot past Naim to give the Wolves a three-goal lead at the hour-mark.

Jesualdo Ferreira went on to make multiple substitutions after the fourth goal, bringing on Akram Afif, Ahmed Suhail and Ali Ferydoon in place of Yasir Abubakar, Xavi and Baghdad Bounedjah.

In the 79th minute, Al-Sadd made the score 5-1 through a penalty that was dispatched calmly by Al-Haydos to complete his hat-trick.

Al-Arabi were handed an opportunity to get a consolation goal in injury time when Morteza Pouraliganji brought down Kwame Karikari in the box. However, Karikari’s penalty kick was kept out by Al-Dosari in what was the final action of the match.

Al-Sadd thus clinched a big win and remain on the heels of league leaders Al-Duhail with five rounds to go.
