AFC Champions League: Al-Sadd beat Al-Nassr at home to reach semifinals
Backed by a vociferous crowd, Al-Sadd scripted a superb 3-1 win over Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr in the AFC Champions League quarterfinal second leg on Monday evening at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, to reach the last four of the competition.
Having lost the first leg 2-1 in Riyadh, Al-Sadd needed to score at least once and Akram Afif opened the proceedings with his headed goal in the 26th minute. Abdelrazak Hamedallah then equalised for Al-Nassr from a free-kick seven minutes later. However, the home side came back strongly in the second half to clinch the ticket to the semifinals through Hassan Al-Haydos’s stunning strike (59′) and a late penalty from Baghdad Bounedjah (83′).
In the semifinal, Al-Sadd will face the winner of the game between Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad. The Wolves will host the first leg in Doha on 1 October before traveling to Saudi Arabia for the second leg on 22 October.
