Xavi: We must not lose these kinds of matches
Al-Sadd coach Xavi Hernandez expressed his disappointment after his side’s 2-1 loss to Al-Wakrah in Week 12 of the QNB Stars League.
Speaking during the press conference after the match, Xavi said: “I feel very disappointed. We had to win in such matches, we missed a penalty, we pressed and created many opportunities but we missed them. We tried to return in the second half but it was difficult to make amends.”
He added: “We are doing well in training but we were not so lucky in this match.”
The coach added: “The administration is working on signings, and we have time until the end of January, but this is not the best way to achieve positive results. I must work with the current group of players in order to achieve the best and the only solution is to develop our level.”
Xavi said: “What we lack is focus throughout the 90 minutes, and Al Wakrah is not the team of the previous season and has evolved for the better. Many things have changed in the league. We lacked some confidence after we had opportunities and did not convert them.”
He concluded by saying: “I am in charge of the team and its results, but we are one family and winning and losing is part of this family. After winning the Super Cup, the win was by everyone’s work, so now the loss rests with everyone as well and we have to work together for the club.”
