QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd lose to Al-Ahli in Round 10
Al-Sadd suffered their first league defeat of the season after losing 4-1 to Al-Ahli in the QNB Stars League Round 10 game played on Saturday.
The result means that Al-Sadd stay in second place in the league standings with 19 points from 8 games, with two delayed games yet to be played.
Omid Ebrahimi opened the scoring for Al-Ahli early on, firing in from a tight angle after exploiting a mistake from Khoukhi Boualem.
Al-Ahli then made it 2-0 in the 21st minute through youngster Abdulrahman Mohammed, who dribbled into the box and finished past the diving Meshaal Barsham in the Al-Sadd goal.
Al-Sadd attempted to get back into the game but were dealt a further blow before halftime, with Pedro Miguel conceding a penalty in the 34th minute. Mohammad Muntari converted the spotkick to give Al-Ahli a 3-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira made some changes to his team, bringing on Ali Asad and Salem Al-Hajri in place of Hassan Al-Haydos and Jung Woo-young respectively.
The Wolves then managed to reduce the deficit in the 52nd minute, after Baghdad Bounedjah struck from the spot after Khoukhi was brought down in the box.
In the 64th minute, Ebrahimi restored Al-Ahli’s three-goal advantage with a powerful strike from the edge of the box, bringing up a 4-1 scoreline that lasted until the final whistle.
