Ferreira: We’re really motivated, winning tomorrow will not guarantee qualification
Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira spoke about the importance of his side’s upcoming AFC Champions League clash with Pakhtakor, describing it as a chance to compete for a knockout stage spot.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference on Monday, Ferreira said: “Al-Sadd have four points while the opponents have five. The match is very important and we need to win here; and it is going to be a really tough match.”
He added: “The away match was tough and we got a draw there. All the players are ready for this game, in the absence of Pedro and Akram (who are suspended). The team will perform with the best of their abilities. Games in the AFC Champions League are completely different from the league, especially because of the surprises.”
The coach also pointed out that winning tomorrow will not mean qualification for the knockout stage but it will be an important step towards it. “Tomorrow’s game will be a huge chance for us to compete for a spot in the next stage. The competition will last until the last group game.”
As for the absence of Pedro and Afif, he said: “Pedro and Akram are two important players but Al-Sadd never depend on just one player. We have replacements who are ready to help the team win.”
Ferreira concluded by saying: “I call upon all our fans to come and stand by the team. There will be 11 fighters on the pitch and the fans will be the player numer 12, our prime pillar of support.”
