Club World Cup: Al-Sadd lose 3-2 to Monterrey in the second round
Al-Sadd suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Mexican side Monterrey in the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019 second round game which was played at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Saturday.
Monterrey took the lead through Leonel Vangioni in the 23rd minute before doubling their advantage just before halftime through Rogelio Funes Mori. Al-Sadd pulled a goal back through Baghdad Bounedjah in the 66th minute, only for Carlos Rodriguez to strike for Monterrey in the 77th minute to make it 3-1. Abdelkarim Hassan netted a second goal for Al-Sadd in the 89th minute but it wouldn’t be enough as time ran out.
The result means that Al-Sadd will now face Esperance of Tunisia in the fifth/sixth place play-off on Tuesday.
