Bounedjah scores 5 as Al-Sadd defeat Al-Arabi 7-0 & go top

4 min read

Al-Sadd went top of the QSL table on Thursday evening after a huge 7-0 win over Al-Arabi in the Doha Derby played at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

The result raised Al-Sadd’s tally to 50 points, lifting them to the top of the table, edging Lekhwiya on goal difference.

Iranian defender Morteza Pouraliganji opened the scoring in the 5th minute before Bounedjah doubled the lead in the 28th minute. The Algerian returned to score his second and the team’s third in the 38th minute before marking his hattrick just before halftime from the penalty spot.

Bounedjah went on to make 5-0 in the 79th minute while substitute Khalfan headed in the 6th just a minute later. In the 83rd minute, Bounedjah scored his fifth goal and Al-Sadd’s 7th. Al-Arabi’s Luis Jimenez went on to miss a penalty in the 86th minute.

Strong start for Al-Sadd; Morteza scores

The Wolves began the match on the front foot and got the lead early on. In the 5th minute, Al-Arabi keeper Rajab Hamza spilled a cross from Hussam Kamal and the ball fell to the feet of Xavi who squared it for Pouraliganji to finish into the empty net.

Al-Sadd continue to apply pressure

Al-Sadd kept up the pressure on the Al-Arabi defence after scoring the first goal. In the 10th minute, Jugurtha Hamroun took a shot from just outside the box but it was kept out by Rajab Hamza. Ali Asad then had a shot go wide of the right post. In the 18th minute, Hamroun dribbled down the left wing and sent a powerful shot which could only hit the side netting. Abdelkarim Hassan went up the left wing in the 25th minute before playing a cross that was met by Hassan Al-Haydos but his header went over the crossbar.

Bounedjah scores twice to make it 3-0

In the 28th minute, Al-Sadd scored again. Al-Haydos sent in a perfect through ball that found Bounedjah, who got past Rajab and scored into an empty goal. Ten minutes later, Bounedjah added his second goal of the match after finishing off a cross by Hamroun from the left, making the score 3-0 to Al-Sadd.

Hattrick for Bounedjah

Bounedjah then went on to complete his hattrick right before halftime after coverting a penalty which was awarded after Al-Arabi’s Mohammed Khalifa was deemed to handled the ball. A few moments later, the referee blew his whistle and signalled for halftime. The two teams walked into the dressing rooms with Al-Sadd leading 4-0.

Al-Sadd maintain domination

The second half started as the first half did, with Al-Sadd’s domination, which was coupled with great passing and movement from the midfielders, who were able to get the ball back quickly after losing possession. In the 50th minute, Hamroun sent in a cross from the right but Bounedjah’s header went slightly over the crossbar.

Khalfan replaces Al-Haydos

Al-Sadd’s first substitution came in the 61st minute after Khalfan Ibrahim replaced Al-Haydos. The Saddawi pressure kept on going and Abdelkarim tried to add a fifth goal with a great shot from outside the penalty box but the ball was kept out by Rajab for a corner. In the 70th minute, Khalfan Ibrahim wasted a chance to score Al-Sadd’s fifth; he picked up a pass from Bounedjah inside the box. Al-Sadd made another change in the 71st minute, which saw Jugurtha Hamroun leave the pitch to be replaced by Hamza Al-Sanhaji.

Bounedjah, Khalfan score

Bounedjah’s scoring spree continued after he made the score 5-0 in the 79th minute. He scored his fourth goal of the match with a powerful shot from outside the box. Just a minute later Kkhalfan Ibrahim scored Al-Sadd’s sixth after meeting Abdelkarim’s cross from the left with a header into the unguarded net. Al-Sadd made their third and final substitution in the 82nd minute by taking off Mohammed Kasola and replacing him with Ahmed Bader Sayar.

7-0 to Al-Sadd

The seventh goal did not take too long to come and in the 83rd minute, Bnounedjah dribbled past Al-Arabi defenders and scored past Rajab. Al-Arabi were then awarded a penalty in the 86th minute but Luiz Jimenez wasted it. The referee signalled for one minute of additional time, before the match ended at full time with Al-Sadd winning 7-0.
