The Al-Sadd football first team registered a huge 4-0 victory over Al-Khor in the Qatar Stars League Round 22 game played at the Al-Khor Stadium on Friday.

With this result, the Wolves regained top spot in the league table after raising their tally to 53 points.

Balanced start

At the beginning of the match, there was a balance in terms of the approaches of the two sides. Ibrahim Majid had a great chance to put Al-Sadd ahead in the 10th minute but his shot from Al-Haydos’s cross deflected off Sultan Al-Enezi and went out for a corner. Al-Khor did not pose any real danger at the other side as the Al-Sadd defence stood firm.

Al-Haydos scores the first goal

Al-Sadd went on to put pressure on the Al-Khor goal until their effort finally bore fruit in the 20th minute. Xavi set up Al-Haydos whose shot rebounded off the right post and then keeper Baba Djibril before going in. Al-Khor then had a chance to equalize but Saad Al-Dosari in the Al-Sadd goal kept out the header from Welinton.

The Al-Sadd players kept up their efforts to score another goal and went on the attack. In the 43rd minute, Xavi, Khalfan and Bounedjah exchanged the ball well before the latter finished past the keeper. However, the referee disallowed the goal for the Wolves after Bounedjah was deemed to be in an offside position. After one minute of additional time, the referee blew his whistle to signal for halftime.

Al-Sadd begin second half strongly

In the second half, Al-Sadd picked up from where they left off and Xavi showed his team’s attacking intent with an attempt in the 49th minute but Baba Djibril was on hand to save it. The Wolves kept up their domination of possession with their players moving well across the pitch. In the 61st minute, Al-Haydos sent in a cross to the oncoming Bounedjah but the defence cleared the ball for a corner.

Pedro adds the second goal

In the 65th minute, Pedro made the score 2-0 to Al-Sadd after a brilliant passing move also involving Bounedjah and Al-Haydos. He picked up the ball inside the box and shot it past the keeper to double the lead.

Hamid Ismail replaces Hussam, Bounedjah scores the third goal

Al-Sadd made their first substitution of the match in the 68th minute, bringing on Hamid Ismail in place of Hussam Kamal at right back. Khalfan Ibrahim almost made it 3-0 in the 75th minute but his header from Hamid’s cross was saved by Baba Djibril. The third goal did come just four minutes later, via Bounedjah. Al-Haydos did well to dribble past the defence on the right before squaring the ball across for Boundejah to finish past the keeper and score the third goal for Al-Sadd.

Two more changes, Hamza scores

Jesualdo Ferreira brought on two more substitutes in the 83rd minute; Hamza Al-Sanhaji and Ahmed Bader Sayyar replaced Khalfan Ibrahim and Hassan Al-Haydos. Al-Sadd continued to maintain their control over possession in the final minutes with Al-Khor not managing a reaction. The referee signalled for three minutes of additional and in what was the final action of the game, substitute Al-Sanhaji finished past Djibril after a pass from Xavi, making the score 4-0.
