Al-Sadd placed in Group B after QSL Cup draw

The Qatar Stars League has made the draw for the upcoming QSL Cup on Monday morning at Al Bidda tower. The event, which was held in the presence of Ahmed Al Adsani, Director of Competitions Department at the Qatar Stars League, club officials and local media.

The draw saw all 12 QNB Stars League sides drawn into the following groups:

Group A: Al-Duhail – Al Gharafa – Al Kharaitiyat – Al Sailiya – Al Khor – Qatar Club.

Group 2: Al Sadd – Al Rayyan – Umm Salal – Al Arabi – Al Ahli – Al Markhiya.

The tournament is set to take place after third week of QNB Stars League action, when the competition will take a two week break for international football. QSL officials also revealed that further details of the competition, including match dates and stadiums will be announced in due course following liaison with the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

QSL officials also revealed that U23 and Youth players are eligible to play in the tournament, and that any cards picked up in the competition are separate from the disciplinary procedures of the league program.

The format of the competition means that each team the fellow five sides once in a league format. The top two sides in each group will be drawn against each other in the semi-finals before the winners take on each other in a showpiece final.

Participation in the tournament is mandatory for all 12 of the QSL clubs. Failure to do so will result in a fine of QR 200000, if the club has a satisfactory reason that is accepted by the organizing committee.

The winning team will receive the QSL Cup trophy, gold medals and prize money while the runners-up will receive silver medals and prize money.
