Al-Sadd open league campaign with 6-0 win over Al-Kharaitiyat

The Al-Sadd football first team opened their 2018-19 QNB Stars League campaign with a huge 6-0 win over Al-Kharaitiyat in the Round 1 game that was played at the Khalifa International Stadium on Sunday.

The first three points of the season were secured courtesy of a Baghdad Bounedjah hat-trick, a brace from Akram Afif and an own goal by Al-Kharaitiyat defender Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Afif started off the scoring in the 8th minute with a half-volley after Gabi’s cross fell right in front of him in the box. In the 41st minute, Bounedjah had a great chance to double the lead after dribbling past two defenders but his shot crashed off the crossbar, which meant that Al-Sadd went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, head coach Jesualdo Ferreira made his first change of the game, giving a competitive Al-Sadd debut to Jung Woo-young, who replaced Ali Asad.

The Wolves maintained their domination over the game as the second half progressed and duly scored their second goal in the 58th minute through a penalty. Bounedjah’s cross from the left was handled in the box by Mohammed Salam and the Algerian striker stepped up to successfully convert the resultant spot-kick.

Al-Sadd took a 3-0 lead in the 78th minute, when Al-Kharaitiyat defender Abdulrahman Mohammed deflected the ball into his own net after a fine exchange of passes between Afif and Bounedjah.

More goals came in the following minutes, with Bounedjah converting Hamid Ismail’s cross in the 83rd minute while Afif slotted home the fifith goal in the 89th minute, after collecting a pass from Hassan Al-Haydos.

Bounedjah completed his hat-trick in the 92nd minute, with an acrobatic effort to convert Al-Haydos’ cross, which made it 6-0.
