Al-Sadd lose 1-2 to Umm Salal in QSL Cup

Al-Sadd went down 1-2 to Umm Salal in the QSL Cup Group B fixture which was played on Tuesday at the Al-Khor Stadium.

The result means that Al-Sadd remain in the sixth and last place in the group table without any points after losing their first three games.

Neither team had any real chances to score early on in the first half before Al-Sadd’s Jassim Al-Shammari sent a powerful strike at goal in the 12th minute. However, the shot went out off the right post.

Al-Sadd continued to press in search of a goal and had some good opportunities to score. Rami Sohail was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet when his fierce strike was kept out by the Umm Salal keeper Eissa Shabaan. A few minutes later, Rami had another chance and this time, he was through on goal but his shot was saved once again.

Ahmed Bader then got the ball of Ibrahima Ndiaye and sent a shot at goal but it went just wide of the post. Umm Salal had their share of the opportunities as well but Al-Sadd keeper Jehad Mohammed stood first to deny them. The first half thus went on to end in a goalless stalemate.

In the beginning of the second half, Umm Salal took the lead. Maher Yousef won the ball off Al-Sadd defender Hussain Bahzad and finished past Jehad to give his side a 1-0 lead in the 46th minute.

Al-Sadd then thought they had equalized but Rami Sohail was adjudged offside and the referee cancelled the goal.

The equalizer did come for Al-Sadd, in the 78th minute, when Jassim Al-Shammari managed to score. The striker got on the end of a pass from Saoud Al-Nasr from the left and slotted the ball home past Eissa Shabaan to make it 1-1.

However, it was Umm Salal who would have the last laugh. In the final minute of normal time, Maher Yousef returned to score after making use of a defensive error from Al-Sadd. That strike meant that Umm Salal lead 2-1 with only minutes left in the game. Despite Al-Sadd’s efforts, Umm Salal held on to register the win.
