Al-Sadd defeat Al-Khor 4-0 to reach Emir’s Cup semifinals

2 min read

Al-Sadd reached the semifinals of the 2018 Emir’s Cup with a 4-0 win over Al-Khor in the quarterfinal fixture which was played at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium on Thursday evening.

Ali Ferydoon’s 37th minute goal gave Al-Sadd a 1-0 lead at halftime, before Pedro, Yasir Abubakar and Akram Afif added three more goals in the second half (53′, 67′ and 90′).

After a quiet start to the game, the Wolves kicked into action after the first ten minutes, with Hassan Al-Haydos, Khoukhi Boualem and Morteza Pouraliganji all coming close to scoring.

Ferydoon missed a great chance in the 31st minute when he headed Musab Kheder’s cross just wide of the left post. However, six minutes later, he made amends by scoring the first goal of the game. Al-Haydos sent in a free kick and Boualem met it with a first-time effort which was kept out by Al-Khor goalkeeper Khalifa Abubakar, only for Ferydoon to tap in the rebound from close range.

The first half ended with that narrow lead for Al-Sadd but more goals would come in the second half as Ferreira’s men shifted gears. In the 53rd minute, Pedro rose highest and met Yasir’s cross with an accurate header to make it 2-0.

Yasir then got on the scoresheet himself with a bit of magic in the 67th minute. After Ferydoon’s ball into the box rebounded off the crossbar, Yasir was on hand to deftly chip the ball over the advancing keeper to give Al-Sadd a 3-0 lead.

Finally, Afif put the icing on the cake with the fourth goal which came in the 90th minute. The youngster dribbled and advanced to the edge of the box before scoring with an unstoppable strike.
