Al-Sadd defeat Al-Kharaitiyat 4-0 to take second spot

Al-Sadd regained second place in the QNB Stars League standings, after a convincing 4-0 win over Al-Kharaitiyat in the Round 11 game which was played on Thursday.

The Wolves now have 27 points and end the first phase of the league in second place, two points behind leaders Al-Duhail.

Pedro scored in the first half before a brace from Hassan Al-Haydos and another goal from Jugurtha Hamroun gave Al-Sadd the big win.

In the opening few minutes, there was very little action at either end. It took 12 minutes before Ali Asad came up with a chance to put Al-Sadd in front. The midfielder’s shot rebounded off the post and then deflected out off the foot of Jugurtha Hamroun.

Al-Kharaitiyat had a chance of their own in the 27th minute but Anwar Diba’s shot was kept out by Meshaal Barsham.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, Al-Sadd took the lead. Xavi sent in a free-kick from the right, which was headed in perfectly by Pedro Miguel to ensure the half ended with the score 1-0 in favour of the Wolves.

After the restart, Al-Haydos doubled Al-Sadd’s advantage from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute. The penalty had been awarded after Musab Kheder’s cross was handled by Saoud Nasser in the box.

In the 73rd minute, Ahmed Bader Sayyar replaced Ali Asad and took up the central midfielder role, to help the team maintain a balance between defence and attack.

That didn’t stop Al-Sadd from scoring again as just four minutes later, Hamroun got on the scoresheet. After a surging run into the box, the Algerian winger lashed in an unstoppable shot past the Al-Kharaitiyat keeper Ahmed Sufyan.

The Wolves then got a fourth goal in the 81st minute when Al-Haydos cut in from the left and scored with a finely placed shot.
