Al-Sadd defeat Al-Ahli 2-1, top the table temporarily

2 min read

Goals from Baghdad Bounedjah and Hassan Al-Haydos helped Al-Sadd clinch a 2-1 victory over Al-Ahli in Round 7 of the QNB Stars League on Thursday at the Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium.

The win increased Al-Sadd’s points tally to 18 in 7 games and took the team to the top of the table temporarily.

Algerian forward Bounedjah gave the Wolves a great start when he scored in the 7th minute, after finishing off a pass from Hassan Al-Haydos.

Al-Sadd went on to dominate the game after taking the lead and in the 18th minute, they doubled their advantage.

After Musab Kheder played in a cross from the right, the Al-Ahli defenders failed to clear the ball properly and it fell at the feet of Al-Haydos. The Al-Sadd captain took a touch before sending a powerful shot that went in past the keeper.

In the 29th minute, Hassan Ahmed had an opportunity to make it 3-0 to Al-Sadd. Following Al-Ahli keeper Yazan Naim’s save off Yasser Abubakar, Hassan tried to head in the rebound but it went over the crossbar.

Al-Sadd had more chances to score but the half went on to end with them carrying a 2-0 lead.

The second half began with Al-Sadd picking up from where they left off. Bounedjah was sent through by Al-Haydos in the 54th minute, but the Algerian’s shot went wide of the right post.

Al-Sadd’s first substitution came in the 70th minute as Saoud Al-Nasr replaced Hassan Ahmed. Al-Ahli then went on to make attempts to score, especially after the introduction of Majed Mohammed from the bench.

Meshaal Al-Shammari then came on for Ali Asad in the 82nd minute and had a chance to score almost immediately. However, his shot from outside the box went just inches wide of the right post.

Al-Ahli finally got a goal at the very end when their captain Meshaal Abdullah controlled a long ball before finishing past Saad Al-Dosari. The match thus went on to end 2-1 to Al-Sadd.
