Al-Sadd get off to ideal start, beat Al-Kharaitiyat 4-0
3 min readAl-Sadd began their 2016/17 Qatar Stars League campaign in style with a 4-0 win over Al-Kharaitiyat in the Round 1 match played at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Friday.
Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring for the Wolves in the 25th minute before three more goals followed in the second half. Hassan Al-Haydos made it 2-0 in the 62nd, followed by substitute Ali Asad who netted in the 77th minute. Bounedjah then completed his brace with Al-Sadd’s fourth goal in the 92nd minute.
- Calm start, Al-Sadd dominate
The match began with a period of calm as neither side showed much attacking fervour. Al-Sadd dominated possession in the early minutes and in the 5th minute, a loose ball fell at the feet of Hassan Al-Haydos but the Qatari international’s shot deflected off a defender for a corner. New signing Jugurtha Hamroun came through from the left and sent a powerful shot at goal in the 12th minute, but keeper Ahmed Sufyan was on hand to deal with it.
- Bounedjah gives Al-Sadd the lead
In the 25th minute, Al-Sadd took the lead through Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah who picked up a pass from Xavi and finished past Sufyan to make it 1-0. The Saddawi domination continued throughout the half but no more goals would come before the halftime whistle.
- Al-Kharaitiyat pressurize in the second half
The opponents Al-Kharaitiyat began the second half on the front foot, looking to grab an equalizer and in the 50th minute, they had the ball in the net. But the effort was ruled out as Loteteka Bokilla was adjudged to be in an offside position. In the 59th minute, Al-Sadd had a great chance to make it 2-0 when Hamroun attempted a shot but the ball went wide of the left post.
- Al-Haydos scores the second
Al-Sadd doubled their lead in the 62nd minute through Hassan Al-Haydos, who controlled a lofted pass from Hamroun and rounded the keeper with a feint before finishing coolly. The Wolves then made their first substitution, bringing on Ali Asad in place of Khalfan Ibrahim in the 69th minute. A few minutes later, Abdulaziz Al-Ansari replaced Hamroun.
- Substitute Asad makes it 3-0 to Al-Sadd
In the 77th minute, Ali Asad dribbled in from the right and scored with a powerful shot from the edge of the box, to make the score 3-0. Al-Sadd coach Jesualdo Ferreira then made his final substitution with Hassan Al-Haydos being replaced by Gaser Yahya. Al-Sadd looked to further stretch the lead with more goals while Al-Kharaitiyat sought to reduce the deficit. Finally, it was Bounedjah who succeeded in scoring; the Algerian finished off a pass from Hossam Kamal to score his second of the game and the fourth goal for the Wolves in the 2nd minute of injury time. The game thus ended in a 4-0 victory for Al-Sadd.
