Ferreira: Playing Esteghlal will be different; our players are ready

Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira has stressed on the importance of his side’s upcoming game against Esteghlal in the 2017 AFC Champions League playoff round. The match is set to be played on Tuesday at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.

Speaking to the media at the pre-match press conference, Ferreira said: “The match will be tough and completely different from our domestic matches. I don’t know why it was decided that it will be a one-off match but this is the AFC schedule and we have to respect it. I’m really excited about the match, especially because of the stadium and the huge crowds.”

The boss also went on to add: “It will be a hard-fought match against a strong team who have a big reputation and lots of fans in Iran. We at Al-Sadd know this very well and are prepared to give our best. The players are all in high spirits and are looking to win and reach the group stage.”

Asked about team captain Xavi, Ferreira said: “Xavi is a big player and I don’t need to talk about him. He always gives his best and serves the team. He is a role model for all the other players.”

Ferreira concluded by saying: “We know what is required of us. We will look to play the suitable lineup for the match, which is like a final and could go to extra time. The players are in high spirits and are fully prepared to play in the proper manner.”
