Xavi: Proud of the team’s performance, we have to continue with the same approach
Al-Sadd head coach Xavi Hernandez expressed his great delight with the team’s 5-1 victory over Al Gharafa in the Week 11 of the QNB Stars League.
Speaking during the press conference after the match, Xavi said: “I am very happy with the big victory today over Al Gharafa, we played one of our best games this season. A month and a half ago, we suffered a 3-0 loss against Qatar SC here but today the team’s performance was more than wonderful.”
He added: “I was hoping to end with a clean sheet.”
“I am proud to train Al-Sadd and if this approach continues, we will be close to winning titles this season.”
And about his time in Qatar until now, the Al Sadd coach said: “I am happy to be here in Qatar and I am happy that I am part of the World Cup 2022 project. All the fans that attended and witnessed the Club World Cup were impressed by what they saw and I am sure everyone will return to Qatar again.”
Regarding how he had prepared the players for the Al Gharafa match after the big defeat to Esperance in the Club World Cup, Xavi indicated that he was very happy with the training that the team went through this week. He said: “We tried to motivate the players and worked on the psychological aspect. I am happy with the players performance and we want to continue with this attitude; we have excellent players who are capable of doing this.”
He continued: “We have an opportunity to win the league as of now and we are trying to find solutions for the drop in performance from time to time. We want to reach a satisfactory level, which helps us to progress more and more.”
As for the upcoming start of the winter transfer window, the Al-Sadd coach said: “I have great confidence in the current players of the team and the youth. There is no plan at this moment to sign new players – who knows what will happen after two or three weeks.”
