QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd lose 3-0 to Qatar SC
Al-Sadd fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Qatar SC in the QNB Stars League Round 10 game, which was played at the Thani bin Jassim Stadium on Saturday evening.
The result meant that Al-Sadd’s point tally remained at 15 from 8 games, with two games against Al-Arabi and Al-Khor yet to be played.
Sardor Rashidov scored twice for Qatar SC, while Kayke Moreno also got on the scoresheet.
Qatar SC took the lead in the 9th minute, after a mistake from Al-Sadd captain Gabi in midfield saw Kayke claim the ball. He then played Rashidov through on goal, and the Uzbek finished past Saad Al-Dosari to make it 1-0.
Kayke scored Qatar SC’s second goal in the 31st minute, after capitalizing on Al-Sadd’s high line with a quick counter attack. It was Rashidov who sped through with the ball, before he played it across for Kayke to score.
Al-Sadd made attempts to get back into the game after the shock start but they found it hard to crack the Qatar SC defence. In the 44th minute, Hamed Ismail sent a cross from the right, which was met by a Baghdad Bounedjah header, only for the ball to go just wide of the goal.
As the second half kicked off, head coach Xavi Hernandez brought on Jung Woo-young to replace Abdulaziz Al-Ansari. Jung went on to play in midfield alongside Gabi while Hassan Al-Haydos moved up front. In the 62nd minute, Bounedjah had a go at goal from the edge of the box but his shot went over the bar.
The Wolves continued to apply pressure in search of a goal, with Xavi aiming to help their efforts by replacing Hamed Ismail and Hassan Al-Haydos with Yasir Abubakar and Hashim Ali. However, the Al-Sadd players struggled to make a breakthrough and instead, it was Qatar SC who would score. In the fifth minute of stoppage time, Rashidov sent a powerful shot from distance, which went in at the near post.
