QNB Stars League: Al-Sadd lose 0-1 to Al-Khor

Al-Sadd fell to a third straight defeat in the QNB Stars League, after losing 0-1 to Al-Khor in the Round 21 game played at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium on Saturday.

The result means that Al-Sadd remain in second place with 46 points, with just one more round remaining to be played in the league.

While the first half ended goalless, Al-Khor missed a penalty in the 83rd minute before going on to score the lone goal of the game through Salem Khalifa two minutes later.

The match began in a calm fashion with no real chances for either team in the opening minutes. Al-Sadd were then dealt a blow in the 17th minute when Khoukhi Boualem had to be taken off due to an injury. He was replaced by youngster Hassan Ahmed, who went on to play up front while Jugurtha Hamroun moved to the left wing.

Hassan Al-Haydos had a great chance to put Al-Sadd in front in the 25th minute, but his powerful shot was kept out by Al-Khor keeper Khalifa Abubakar.

After the goalless first half, the match came alive in the second half as both teams looked to make the breakthrough. In the 54th minute, Hamroun sent in a cross from the left but Abubakar was able to intervene at the right moment and prevent Abdelkarim Hassan from scoring.

Abdelkarim then got a chance to score a deserved goal for the Wolves, when he chested in a cross from Hamroun but Abubakar was on hand once again to clear the ball at the final moment.

While Al-Sadd failed to make their chances count, Al-Khor were awared a penalty in the 83rd minute after a foul by goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham. However, Al-Khor’s Soroush Rafiei wasted the spotkick by skying the ball over the crossbar.

Two mintues later, however, Al-Khor made amends with Salem Khalifa scoring with a fierce strike from outside the box to give his side the lead. Despite Al-Sadd’s attempts to get back in the game, Al-Khor held on till the end to register a 1-0 win over the hosts, who ended the game with ten men following Pedro Miguel’s late dismissal.
