Mohammed Gholam: Three important points for us, we got what we wanted

Al-Sadd sporting director Mohammed Gholam Al-Baloushi praised the efforts of the team after the thrilling 2-1 win over Al-Wasl in their opening AFC Champions League game.

Speaking after the game, Al-Baloushi said: “These are three important points at the beginning of the campaign. Thank God, we achieved what we required from the game and we got a crucial victory.”

He added: “Regardless of the performance, the win is what’s important. We didn’t start the match well and the manager made some changes and corrected some mistakes, after which things changed entirely. We dominated the match in the second half. After Baghdad’s introduction, things got much better and we succeeded in scoring two goals which gave us the three points.”

“The team only played 35 minutes with its normal level of performance. Nonetheless, we were the better side and we deserved to win.”

The sporting director also spoke about the upcoming game: “Now, our focus will turn to the next game against Al-Arabi in the league and after which, we will think about the next game in the AFC Champions League, especially as we are competing for the league title and we must maintain our progress.”
