Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira rued the luck of his team after many wasted opportunities cost them in the 1-3 defeat to Al-Wakrah in Round 16 of the QSL.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ferreira said: “We were not fortunate in this match and in my view, we could have won the game by two or three goals, especially as the wind was in our favour in the first half. Unfortunately, we made some unacceptable errors which have been repeated in the last few matches.”
The Al-Sadd coach added: “It is impossible to win if we commit all these errors.” “Despite all that, I salute all the players for what they did throughout the match,” said Ferreira, adding that luck was not on their side after three efforts which could have changed the match, hit the woodwork.
The Portuguese tactician also said that Al-Sadd is a big team and must not commit these types of errors. He said: “The players made a lot of errors which have been occurring ever since my first game with the team. Repetition of these errors only help the opponent to score. We did not find enough time to clean up our mistakes especially with the number of injuries which have plagued the team.”
Ferreira also pointed out that half of the Al-Sadd team that played tonight was from the reserves. “But we are happy that we gave the opportunity to them and we put up a good 90 minutes; we were better than Al-Wakrah but luck was not on our side. Unfortunately when we commit an error, we concede a goal. We do not have a strong preferred XI with all the injuries that have happened. I hope fortune favours us in our upcoming matches.”
The head coach then went on to wish Khalfan Ibrahim good health after the Al-Sadd star injured his eye during warmup before the match.
