Al-Sadd football first team head coach Jesualdo Ferreira spoke to the media ahead of the Sheikh Jassim Cup clash against Lekhwiya and made it clear that the match will be difficult. The game is set to kick off at 6 PM at the Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium of Al-Ahli Club on Thursday.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Ferreira said: “It will be a tough match, different from the past matches as there are no points or league places at stake. Lekhwiya is a strong organized team and has achieved many victories in the recent past. They are also defending league champions. I do not have much information about them but they make us work harder than any other past match. They are above Al-Sadd in the league and they are better than us now. But it is not the best that always wins the cup finals and so we need to give our very best to get the win.”
The Portuguese coach added: “Al-Sadd stars are shining with the Qatar Olympic team at the AFC U23 Championship. I am really happy with their performance as they are the pride of the club which always contributes with the best players for the national teams.” He pointed out that he expects much more from these players in the coming matches with the national team as they have the ability to serve their nation in the ideal manner.
As for the timing of the Sheikh Jassim Cup match, Ferreira said that he is very happy that it is taking place in this period and not in the beginning of the season as he was not with the team at that time. He added: “I joined Al-Sadd just one month ago and we are working with a team that has suffered with injuries. We are trying to expand our new philosophy and the league break has given some players the opportunity to play in the team.”
The Al-Sadd coach went on to say: “For quite some time now, us in the team, we have been dreaming of this tie and winning it. I think we have this desire since we are anxious to win it. With this kind of positive spirit we seek to face Lekhwiya; the high spirits make me optimistic of a win.”
