Ferreira: Tough clash awaiting us at the Azadi, our aim is to stay top
Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira believes that the team’s upcoming clash against Perspolis in the AFC Champions League will be a difficult affair, while affirming that his side will look to win and finish top of the group.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s game, Ferreira said: “It’s an honour to be here in Iran, especially as we’re here to play a huge game against Persepolis. Our aim will be to win and secure our top spot in the group.”
“I expect a huge attendance for this game at the Azadi Stadium. The match is set to be intense and I hope my team will be at its best and clinch the win.”
Ferreira went on to congratulate his countryman Carlos Queiroz, who led the Iran national team to a spot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
When asked about who he would like to face in the Round of 16, from between Al Jazira and Al Ahli, Ferreira said: “All that I want is be first in the group. It doesn’t matter to me who I face in the next round. We just want to stay on top and we are not thinking beyond that.”
As for his strategy for the game against Persepolis, in which a draw could secure top spot, Ferreira said: “I prefer to plan for one match at a time. We will play to win and this will be our aim throughout the match. I deal with my players, having this aim in mind. I don’t think any player at Al-Sadd is thinking about playing for a draw. All of us want to play for the win.”
The Al-Sadd coach went on to conclude by saying: “It is going to be a tough match at the Azadi Stadium. Both teams have good players who can get them the win. We believe we are fully capable of achieving that.”
