Ferreira: The match against Al-Rayyan is a step towards the title

Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira spoke to the media on Wednesday, ahead of his side’s upcoming Qatar Cup 2017 semifinal clash against Al-Rayyan, which will be held on Thursday at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Ferreira said: “This match is very important for us. The Qatar Cup has a history in this country. We are facing last season’s league champions and the match is going to be difficult. We need to be focused in order to win.”

Ferreira went on to say: “We are looking to win and reach the final. Thursday’s match is an important step towards the title. I wanted to win all the titles but after losing out on the league, I am now focused on the Qatar Cup.”

He added that he has now spent a year and a half in Qatar and that Al-Sadd has the capability to win the big tournaments. “Our goal was to win the league. We managed to give our best from the beginning of the season but luck was not in our favour in the last few matches.”

The gaffer addded: “We will fight for both the Cups. We hope to have luck on our side after we lost out on a number of titles due to the lack of it.”

Asked about his preffered opponent for the final, Ferreira said: “My focus now is on the match against Al-Rayyan and on winning and reaching the final match.”
