Ferreira: It’s a deserved win; we’ll keep working until the end
Al-Sadd coach Jesualdo Ferreira has stressed that his team fully deserved the big 4-1 win over Al-Rayyan on Sunday night.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ferreira said: “I’m happy with our performance in the first half. We dominated over Al-Rayyan’s prominent players – Tabata and Garcia. We played excellently in counter attacks. There were huge gaps in Al-Rayyan’s defence which we used very well.”
The coach added: “The red card did not really help us in any way. I think even if Al-Rayyan had all their players, the result would be the same. We scored the fourth goal in the 53rd minute and clinched the result. Al-Rayyan are a champion team; they didn’t give up until the last minute and we conceded a goal. We could have added to our score. Everyone who watched the game will know that Al-Sadd deserved the result. This will remain in our history.”
As for the dip in performance during the second half, Ferreira said: “There are many players in both teams who have been with the national team recently. Fatigue affected them in the second half, which was a slow in pace.”
Asked about the competition for the league title, Ferreira said: “We won’t give up. There are two more rounds until the end of the league. Unfortunately, we made some mistakes in the previous matches. We will work to make up for that. I feel disappointed that we dropped points in matches which we had to win. We will attempt to return to the top and I hope Lekhwiya will slip up.”
