Ferreira: It’s a deserved win, I want to congratulate the young players
Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira spoke of how his team fully deserved their 2-1 win over Al-Ahli in the QNB Stars League.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ferreira said: “I think it was a difficult but a fully deserved win. I want to congratulate the 10 young players who were in the squad.”
Despite the win, Ferreira also expressed his disappointment with the way the last ten minutes transpired. “Al Ahli could have returned to the game after they reduced the deficit with their goal. I don’t know how we wasted all these chances that came our way,” said the coach. “We were close to losing two points if Al-Ahli managed to equalize.”
He went on to add: “In the (upcoming) league break, we will try to get back the the players who were absent today. We will try to return to the big results after the league resumes.”
“I am not satisfied with wasting chances, especially in matches like the one against Al-Rayyan which we lost 1-2.”
Ferreira also pointed out that his philosophy while working at Al-Sadd is to rely on young players. “My philosophy is to rely on young players and this is the same as that of the club. The young players are always a big part of our team this season and in the last season, especially when you consider the number of injuries and departures of players.”
“I am proud of the young players and their performances with the team. They are not happy with this result, especially as they wanted to score more goals and help the team achieve a win by a bigger margin.”
Ferreira also spoke about Hassan Al-Haydos not playing in his usual position against Al-Ahli. “Al-Haydos played against Al-Ahli in midfield and was defending on a lot of occasions. Ahmed Sayyar had a great match and he is better than many of the foreigners in the league.”
The coach concluded by saying: “I am happy with what we have performed. The league break will help us get back the injured players. I request the young players to be more mature in our upcoming games in the league and in Asia.”
