Ferreira: It was a great win and a good preparation for Champions League

Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira stressed on the importance of his side’s 6-1 win over Umm Salal in the final game of the 2018-19 QNB Stars League campaign, describing it as “good preparation” for the upcoming AFC Champions League game.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ferreira said: “It was an important game for us, as we looked to break more records and it is also good preparation for the upcoming Champions League game against Pakhtakor.

Asked about not starting Bounedjah, Ferreira said: “I did not start Bounedjah from the beginning in order to conserve him. Al-Sadd’s attack is strong, even without Bounedjah, and this match and this big result have given us a lot of confidence.”

He added: “The league is over and is history. My goal in the upcoming period will be to get Al-Sadd into the next stage of the Champions League and also win HH the Emir’s Cup.”

Ferreira then went on to congratulate all the players, staff, officials and fans of Al-Sadd on winning the league title.

Finally, the head coach concluded by saying: “We broke many records this season and we have now reached 100 goals. This will be difficult to break in coming seasons. Akram Afif also became the highest scoring Qatari player ever with 26 goals.”
