Ferreira: Important & fair win; early goal made it easier

Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira stressed on the importance of the result after his side defeated Al-Shahaniya 4-0 in the Qatar Stars League Round 6 match played on Wednesday. The result added three important points to Al-Sadd’s tally and put them on top of the table.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ferreira said: “Round 6 is not over yet. We are happy with the win, especially as Al-Shahaniya are a team that surprises. The opponents do not matter; we only care about winning. I congratulate the Al-Shahaniya team for their performance because they are a fighting opponent.”

The Al-Sadd coach added: “We wanted to score an early goal so that space would open up. And this is what happened when Shahaniya attacked, contrary to what we expected. This is a fair result and we could have scored more goals, which is important for us in the race for the top spot.”

As for how experience tilted the result in Al-Sadd’s favour, Ferreira said: “The win was the result of our players and not the experience of the coaches. The Shahaniya midfield was really tight but they could not maintain a hold on the game because of the early goal. I thank God for that because it made it easier for us to score more goals.”

Asked about the excellent performances shown by Baghdad Bounedjah, Ferreira said: “Bounedjah is an excellent player and I like him a lot. He is of a high calibre and he could have added more to his tally against Al-Shahaniya. He needs to learn to make the right decisions in front of goal so as to not waste chances.”

Ferreira concluded by saying: “It was a fair win and important to help our campaign. We expect better from the team in the upcoming matches which will be more difficult, especially as it will be after the league break.”
