Jesualdo Ferreira, head coach of Al-Sadd, has expressed his gratitude to his predecessor Hussein Amouta for his great work with the team in the three and half years that he spent at the club, during which he won a number of titles.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference for Al-Sadd v Al-Sailiya in Round 11 of the QSL, Ferreira also spoke about his upcoming first match with Al-Sadd. He said: “It will be a tough match as it is my first with Al-Sadd, in which I hope we can put up a good satisfactory show and win. I have only spent 3 days here as coach and I will not work miracles; I do not have a magic wand to change the mentality of the players in that time. But with the passage of time and hard work, we will reach where we aspire to.”
The Portuguese coach added: “Of course, the match is going to be difficult and the Al-Sadd players know that perfectly well and also know the importance of getting a win to close the gap between us and the table toppers. But we need to work hard with the help of everyone, from the players and the management in order to get successive victories.” He pointed out that he saw Al-Sailiya in its last match against Qatar SC, during which they performed very well. He went on to say that Al-Sadd needs more development and improvement, which is what the team will strive for.
Ferreira stressed the importance of continuous work and a gradual bottom-up approach, saying: “I work with a team that has achieved a lot and I hope to win more with them. I hope that the players withstand the pressure. I am happy to work with them; I am proud and honoured to be with a big club the size of Al-Sadd.”
And as for the 9-point gap with Al-Rayyan, Ferreira said: “I know that it is a big difference, but we will face Al-Rayyan in two games with six points at stake. We will strive to win them. We do not play alone; obviously the campaign will be difficult for everyone.”
The Al-Sadd coach concluded his talk by saying: “It is a difficult and strong meeting for us and the players have a great deal of responsibility to give their best. This is what we seek in all the coming matches.”
