Al-Sadd head coach Jesualdo Ferreira met with the media after the 2-2 draw with Al-Rayyan in Round 25 of the Qatar Stars League and said that the result was a fair one.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ferreira said, “We could have scored three goals in the first half but we did not use that opportunity. In the second half, we did not get the required coordination between some players which allowed Al-Rayyan to score those two goals from two set piece situations. This is not normal for us but Al-Sadd players played like men; they did not give up until the last minute and we managed to equalize.”
The Al-Sadd coach added, “The result is a fair one. If you come back and draw after being two goals down, this is a good thing. Al-Rayyan could not defeat us in two games in the league; this is a good thing. We will have to perform even better in the next match against El-Jaish which is like a final to clinch the runners up spot.”
As for the sending of Al-Rayyan midfielder Victor Caceres, Ferreira said: “We benefited from the red card which had an effect on Al-Rayyan. The player got sent off because of the pressure Al-Sadd put on him and Al-Rayyan have had a number of players sent off like this.” The gaffer also added that he was happy with the team remaining unbeaten in the last 7 games, having won 5 and drawn 2.
Ferreira also went on to say, “We will play the next game against El Jaish as if it is a life-and-death situation. I hope all the players will be in their best condition. The team will play with more confidence and I promise you that the next game will be better and on a higher level.”
The Portuguese trainer ended his talk by saying, “At the end of the match, the Al-Rayyan coach entered the grouund; I too entered and then I saw him talking to the Al-Sadd players in a loud voice. I do not know what happened to him; this is not his job to talk with the players of the other team and I told him these things happen with players. Just leave them alone.”
