Ferreira: Didn’t deserve to lose; must work hard to regain confidence

​Al-Sadd coach Jesualdo Ferreira stressed that Al-Sadd did not deserve to lose in the 1-2 defeat to Al-Sailiya in Round 11 of the QSL. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ferreira said: “We do not deserve to lose against Al-Sailiya; we put in a lot of effort but wasted a lot of chances too, including the penalty and three real goal opportunities in the second half. The players were lacking in confidence amidst the managerial change.” He pointed out that the team needs to work hard to overcome the obstacles in the upcoming period.

The Portuguese coach went on to add: “Despite Al-Sailiya taking the lead, we were able to come back. But Al-Sailiya were very well organized and they managed to take the lead again with their second goal. We tried hard in the second half but could not score with luck standing it between us and the goal. I congraulate Al-Sailiya on their big performance against us.”

As for the responsibility of the defence for the two goals that it conceded, Ferreira said: “The defence by itself does not carry the responsibility for the goals; there are other members in the team too, all of who work as a single group. We need to work hard to correct all these errors especially as the team has conceded 10 goals in its last 4 matches, which is a huge number for a big team like Al-Sadd.”

Ferreira concluded his talk by saying: “We deserved to win today; we must remain strong in order to overcome this stage and must work seriously to win the upcoming matches.”
