Del Bosque presents MARCA Leyenda award to Xavi

The Spanish newspaper MARCA held a ceremony at the Aspire Academy on Wednesday to honour Spanish football legend and current Al-Sadd star Xavi Hernandez with the MARCA LEYENDA award. The ceremony was attended by personalities such as Spain manager Vicente del Bosque, MARCA subeditor Juan Ignacio Gallardo and Aspire Academy Strategic Director Markus Egger.
Other notable attendees included Nasser al-Khater, assistant secretary general of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy; Mansour al-Ansari, secretary general of the Qatar Football Association; Mohammed Gholam al-Baloushi, Sporting Director of Al-Sadd and Mohammed Saeed, first team officer, in addition to a large numer of local and foreign mediapersons.
The ceremony began with the screening of a special film about the career of Xavi, from his beginnings in football to his current stop in Qatar with Al-Sadd. There were also video comments from many of his former teammates such as Andres Iniesta, David Villa and Sergio Busquets who praised everything Xavi offered throughout his career. Later, Spain coach Del Bosque presented Xavi with the award.
Xavi has had a career full of titles and achievements at both club and national level. With his club FC Barcelona, he went on to win four Champions League titles while he won the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the 2008 and 2012 European Championships.
The MARCA LEYENDA is one of the most prominent awards in the world given to sportspeople, especially in football, to honour their achievements in their career with their clubs and their national teams. Other former recipients of the award include Alfredo di Stefano, Pele, Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane and Lionel Messi.
