Al-Sadd to face the winner of Al-Kharaitiyat x (Al-Ahli/Al-Markhiya) in Emir’s Cup
The draw proceedings for the HH the Emir’s Cup 2016-17 was held earlier today at the Shangri-La hotel in Doha. The tournament is in its 45th edition and will bring together teams from the first and second divisions of Qatari football. The draw ceremony was attended by representatives of all participating clubs, in addition to coaches and QFA officials led by president Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al-Thani.
Before the draw began, the teams were divided into four tiers:
The first tier consists of teams ranked 1-4 in the Qatar Stars League (QSL)
The second tier consists of teams ranked 5-8 in the QSL
The third tier consists of teams ranked 9-12 in the QSL
The fourth tier consists of team ranked 13th and 14th in the QSL and Mesaimeer and Al-Markhiya from the QatarGas League.
The tournament is to be played on a knockout basis with games heading to penalties in the event of a draw.
The draw for the second round pitted Al-Markhiya against Al-Ahli (M1), Al-Khor against Muaither (M2), Al-Shahaniya against Al-Wakrah (M3) and finally Al-Arabi against Mesaimeer (M4).
The third round matches will be as follows:
M5: Al-Kharaitiyat v (winner of M1)
M6: Al-Sailiya v (winner of M2)
M7: Umm Salal v (winner of M3)
M8: Al-Gharafa v (winner of M4)
The fourth round will be played as follows:
M9: El-Jaish v (winner of M7)
M10: Al-Sadd v (winner of M5)
M11: Lekhwiya v (winner of M6)
M12: Al-Rayyan v (winner of M8)
The semifinals will be played as follows:
M13: Winner of M9 x winner of M10
M14: Winner of M11 v winner of M12
And finally, the final of the 2016-17 HH the Emir’s Cup will be played between the winners of M13 and M14.
