Al-Sadd stay top with 3-2 win over Al-Sailiya
Al-Sadd clinched a 3-2 win over Al-Sailiya in the QNB Stars League Round 2 match played on Friday at the Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium. The result keeps Al-Sadd on top of the league table with 6 points.
Al-Sailiya opened the scoring in 13th minute through Abdulkarim Al-Ali before Xavi equalized in the 17th minute. Jugurtha Hamroun then put Al-Sadd in the lead in the 31st minute. Khoukhi Boualem made it 3-1 to Al-Sadd in the 64th minute before Valentin Lazar reduced the deficit for Al-Sailiya with a penalty in the 83rd minute.
In the opening few minutes, there were exchanges between the two sides as they looke to make an early breakthrough. Jugurtha Hamroun, Timur and Xavi all had chances to score.
In the 13th minute, Al-Sailiya took the lead. After a clearance from a corner, the ball fell at the feet of Abdulkarim Al Ali whose shot from the edge of the box ended up in the goal.
Al-Sadd didn’t take long to come up with a reply as Xavi equalized in the 17th minute with a header after a cross from Hamroun. A couple of minutes later, Al-Sadd could have made it 2-1 but a goal by Morteza Pouraliganji was incorrectly disallowed.
The Wolves did take the lead in the 32nd minute when Hamroun latched onto a pass from Hassan Al-Haydos and converted past the Al-Sailiya goalkeeper. Al-Haydos could have got a goal of his own in the 36th minute but his shot went wide of the right post with the goal open in front of him.
Al-Sadd were awarded a penalty in the 40th minute after Musab Kheder was brought down but Al-Haydos’ attempt was easily saved. Al-Sailiya tried to get back into the game and went on the offensive with Majdi Siddiq almost getting on the scoresheet. However, the midfielder’s powerful effort from outside the box hit the right post before being cleared.
After halftime, the performance of both sides declined. It took until the 64th minute for another goal and it was Al-Sadd who scored to extend the lead. Hamroun’s cross from the right was finished off by Khoukhi Boualem.
Head coach Jesualdo Ferreira made his first change of the match in the 75th minute after replacing Yasser Abubakar with Ahmed Sayyar. Fahad Shanin thus moved to the left back position while Ahmed Sayyar played in midfield. In the 83rd minute, Al-Sailiya pulled a goal back through Valentin Lazar, who scored with a penalty. The referee signalled for four minutes of additional time before ending the game, giving Al-Sadd a 3-2 win.
