Strong start for Al-Sadd; Hamroun scores
Al-Sadd got things off to a great start and from the very beginning, they took the match to Al-Rayyan’s half, putting pressure and attacking in numbers. Xavi had a great chance to score in the 7th minute but his strike was parried away for a corner by Al-Rayyan keeper Omar Barry. In the 13th minute, Al-Sadd took the lead when Hamroun picked up a pass from Xavi and had a go at goal from outside the box. The ball nestled in the bottom corner and Al-Sadd were 1-0 up.
Pressure from Al-Rayyan
Afrer the initial period of domination by Al-Sadd and the subsequent goal, Al-Rayyan got into action and started countering with pressure of their own. Al-Sadd goalkeeper Saad Al-Dosari and his defenders was on hand to keep out the numerous attacks and protect the lead. In the 27th minute, Abdulrahman Al-Harazi had a powerful strike at goal but the ball went slightly wide of the left post. Al-Sadd then had a chance at the other side; Bounedjah headed the ball onto goal but Barry kept it out. Hamed Ismail tried to play the ball back into the face of goal but he was deemed to be in an offside position.
Gomou sent off; second goal for Al-Sadd
In the 38th minute, Al-Rayyan midfielder Daniel Goumou was shown a second yellow card and sent off after he elbowed Hassan Al-Haydos. With the opponent playing with ten men, Al-Sadd then succeeded in scoring twice before halftime. First, it was Bounedjah, who dispatched a penalty in the 45th minute. The penalty had been awarded after Gonzalo Viera brought down Pedro in the box. Then, Al-Sadd made it 3-0 at the stroke of halftime with Pouraliganji heading in a cross from Ibrahim Majid.
Abdelkarim makes it 4-0
The beginning of the second half saw Al-Sadd continue from where they left off and just five minutes in, they scored again. Abdelkarim finished past Barry with a strike from the edge of the box, making the score 4-0 to Al-Sadd. The Wovles continued to dominate with their movement on the pitch, from the wings and from deep, especially from the attacking trio of Al-Haydos, Hamroun and Bounedjah.
Ahmed Sayyar replaces Pedro
In the 70th minute, Al-Sadd made their first substitution; the excellent Pedro Miguel was given a rest and was replaced by youngster Ahmed Bader Sayyar. There was no change in Al-Sadd’s playing style. The players dominated midfield play and passed the ball around well in small areas, troubling the Al-Rayyan defence.
Hamza and Hussam come on; Tabata scores for Al-Rayyan
Al-Sadd went on to make more changes; Hassan Al-Haydos and Hamid Ismail were replaced by Hamza Al-Sanhaji and Hussam Kamal respectively. In the final few minutes, the match witnessed a significant reduction in intensity. With Al-Sadd continuing to dominate proceedings, Al-Rayyan’s only real action was their consolation goal in the 87th minute, which came against the run of play. Rodrigo Tabata reacted first to pick up a rebounded ball and finish past Al-Dosari. The referee signalled for three minutes of additional time before blowing the full time whistle, giving Al-Sadd a 4-1 win.
