Al-Sadd return to winning ways, defeat Al-Shahaniya 4-0

Al-Sadd got back to winning ways in the Qatar Stars League after a convincing 4-0 win over Al-Shahaniya in the Round 6 game held at the Grand Hamad Stadium on Wednesday. The result raised Al-Sadd’s points tally to 14.

Baghdad Bounedjah gave Al-Sadd an early lead from the penalty spot (6′) before Xavi added a second in the 36th minute. Al-Sadd then went on to score two more goals in the second half through Ali Asad (69′) and Bounedjah (78′).

Al-Sadd take early lead through Bounedjah

The match began with Al-Sadd getting off to an excellent start. Baghdad Bounedjah had a goal for them in the 6th minute itself after dispatching a penalty that was awarded when Shahaniya keeper Khalifa Al-Dosari brought him down in the box. After the goal, the game was dominated by Al-Sadd with good movement down the wings – Abdelkarim on the left and Jugurtha Hamroun on the right. In the 15th minute, Xavi missed a golden opportunity to make it 2-0; Bounedjah chested down a high ball for Xavi to tap in from close range but the Spaniard’s shot went over the bar.

Shahaniya keeper stays firm

Al-Sadd kept controlling play and dominated midfield, moving the ball around in a good manner. In the 23rd minute, Khalifa Al-Dosari denied Al-Sadd a second goal after he kept out a free kick from Ibrahim Majid. A few minutes later, Hamroun shot from close range but Khalifa kept it out once again, parrying it away. The ball fell at the feet of Bounedjah but his shot was deflected for a corner.

Xavi adds a second goal

In the 36th minute, Al-Sadd got another goal when Xavi directly converted a pass from Abdelkarim on the left to make it 2-0 to the Wolves. After two mintues of injury time, the referee blew his whistle for halftime.

Shahaniya pressure at the start of second half

Al-Sadd began the second half without any changes in the lineup. Al-Shahaniya began the half on the front foot and attacked strongly in the first five minutes, putting numbers into the Al-Sadd box as they looked to reduce the deficit. Al-Sadd fought against the Shahaniya pressure which brought about multiple shots at the Al-Sadd goal.

Salem Al-Hajri replaces Hamroun; Asad scores the third

Al-Sadd made their first substitution in the 60th minute when Jugurtha Hamroun was repalced by Salem Al-Hajri to support the midfield. Al-Sadd then managed to score a third goal through Ali Asad in the 69th minute. The midfielder picked up a pass from Bounedjah and tucked the ball away to the left of the keeper to make the score 3-0.

Bounedjah scores the fourth goal

Bounedjah then returned to add a second goal to his tally for the night with a great free kick from just outside of the box in the 78th minute, to make it 4-0 to the Wolves. Al-Sadd then made two more substitutions, bringing on Hamed Ismail and Musab Kheder in place of Abdelkarim Hassan and Hussam Kamal. The Saddawi domination continued and they looked to score more goals but final whistle eventually came and the match ended with a 4-0 victory for Al-Sadd.
