Cautious start; El Jaish take the lead
Both sides started the match with caution but it was not long before El-Jaish managed to open the scoring. In the tenth minute, the attacking trio of Hamdallah, Rashidov and Romarinho capitalised on bad defending from Al-Sadd following a counter-attack, allowing Hamdallah to score the first goal past Saad al-Dosari.

Al-Haydos equalizes
Al-Sadd came up with a quick reply and after some good movement of the ball in the box in the 17th minute, Al-Haydos latched on to a pass from Hamza al-Sanhaji and sent a shot to the top corner to level the scores. Al-Sadd went on to take full control of the match after the equalizer and put continuous pressure on the Jaish goal. In the 32nd minute, al-Sanhaji hit a volley from the left, only for Jaish keeper Khalifa Abubakar to parry it away with some difficulty.

Muriqui gets the second for Al-Sadd
Al-Sadd then managed to score a second goal and put themselves in the lead in the 33rd minute. Muriqui was sent through on goal after a pass past the defenders from the brilliant Ali Asad; the Brazilian made no mistake and put the ball past Khalifa. The Wolves put further pressure and could have added to the scoreline if Hamza had scored with his shot in the 39th minute. Ibrahim Majed also had a goal disallowed in the 42nd minute. The referee went on to signal two minutes of injury time before blowing the whistle for halftime, sending the teams into the tunnel with Al-Sadd carrying a 2-1 lead.

Al-Sadd then made its first change in the 56th minute, as Jesualdo Ferreira sent on Talal al-Baloushi in place of Hamza al-Sanhaji.

In the 57th minute, El Jaish were back in the lead again. Murad Naji sent in a cross and the unmarked Romarinho headed in to score the third goal for his team. In the 69th minute, Hamdallah scored again, this time with a powerful shot from inside the box.
