Al-Sadd lose to Al-Sailiya in Ferreira’s first match
04 Dec 2015
Al-Sadd were handed their second defeat in the Qatar Stars League this season after going down 1-2 to Al-Sailiya in a Round 11 match played on Friday at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. The result meant that Al-Sadd stayed in third place in the league table with 21 points.
Al-Sailiya opened the scoring in the 15th minute through striker Abdulqadir Ilyas before Hassan al-Haydos equalized for Al-Sadd in the 40th minute. The Cameroonian Raoul Loe then scored the second goal for Al-Sailiya just before halftime and it proved to be the final goal of the match as Al-Sadd striker Muriqui went on to miss a penalty in the 72nd minute.
Both teams started the match with some ferocity, with Al-Sadd managing to control possession and make some attempts at the Al-Sailiya goal on a number of occasions whereas Al-Sailiya came up with a balanced approach. It was Al-Sailiya that almost took the lead in the 9th minute through Abdulkarim Salem, whose freekick hit the crossbar and went out.
In the 15th minute, Al-Sailiya took the lead when Abdulqadir Ilyas latched on to a through ball from Sayyaf al-Korbi and put the ball past Saad al-Sheeb in the Al-Sadd goal. This was followed by Saddawi pressure as the Wolves sought to make a return. Xavi made an attempt in the 18th minute but his shot was saved by the keeper. In the 23rd minute, Khalfan Ibrahim had a shot go wide of the right post.
Al-Sadd continued to make attempts but without any real danger, amidst a cautious defensive performance from Al-Sailiya after they took the lead. In the 36th minute, Ibrahim Majid sent a poweful shot from outside the box which deflected off the Sailiya defence and went out. Al-Sadd kept on trying to penetrate the defence, both from the wings and from deep.
Eventually, Hassan al-Haydos managed to get it done five minutes from halftime. He dribbled through from the left wing and placed his strike in the far corner to the left of the Sailiya keeper Gregory Gomis to get the equalizer for Al-Sadd. But parity only lasted for five minutes as defender Raoul Loe headed in a corner from al-Korbi during injury time. The teams thus went into the tunnel with Sailiya leading 2-1
Al-Sadd made two changes at the start of the second half with Nasser Ibrahim and Mohammed Kasola replacing Talal al-Baloushi and Musab Khodr. Nasser took his place on the right wing and Al-Sadd continued to put pressure on the Sailiya goal with attacks from the wings and from deep and Xavi orchestrating the moves.
With the Saddawi attempts continuing without any results, Al-Sadd made their third and final change in the 70th minute when Abdulkarim Hassan replaced Nadir Belhadj. Just a minute later, Muriqui was brought down in the box and the referee pointed to the spot, giving a penalty to Al-Sadd and a chance to equalize. However, Muriqui saw his attempt saved by Gomis in the Sailiya goal.
Al-Sadd then tried hard to make amends in the final period but were unsuccessful as Al-Sailiya kept out everything that was thrown at them. After a 6-minute injury time, the referee blew his whistle, giving Al-Sailiya a 2-1 win.
