Al-Sadd lose 1-2 to Al-Rayyan in first defeat of the season

Al-Sadd suffered their first defeat of the season after losing 1-2 to Al-Rayyan in the QNB Stars League Round 5 game played on Friday at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium.

The Wolves now remain with 15 points from 6 games in the league table.

Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring for Al-Sadd before goals from Abdelrazaq Hamedallah and Koh Myong Jin gave Al-Rayyan the win.

The match began with both sides looking to make an impact from the start. Yasser Abubakar sent in a cross in the 6th minute which was diverted to the right post by Al-Rayyan defender Mohammed Kasola.

Bounedjah then gave Al-Sadd the lead in the 12th minute after heading in Musab Kheder’s cross from the right.

Al-Rayyan went on to press hard in search of an equalizer but Al-Sadd stood firm in defence while also having a go at the Rayyan goal through occasional attacks.

The first half went on to end with Al-Sadd leading 1-0. After halftime, Al-Rayyan came back into the game with Abdelrazaq Hamedallah equalizing in the 55th minute.

Al-Sadd made its first change two minutes later, bringing on Jugurtha Hamroun in place of Fahad Shanin. Hamroun took his place on the left wing while Yassir Abubakar retreated to the left back position.

In the 71st minute, Koh added Al-Rayyan’s second goal. The Korean midfielder won the ball off Musab Kheder before finishing past Saad Al Dosari from a tight angle.

Al-Sadd then made a further substitution to try and freshen things by replacing Ali Asad with Ahmed Bader Sayyar.

The Wolves tried hard in the last fifteen minutes of the matches to force an equalizer but to no avail.

Hamroun had a chance to score in the 90th minute but his header was kept out by Omar Barry.

Al-Rayyan then held on until the final whistle to register a 2-1 win.
