Al-Sadd holds main training session to prepare for Lekhwiya

​Al-Sadd football first team held its main training session from 5:30 PM on Tuesday as part of its preparation to play the Qatar Super Cup match against Lekhwiya for the Sheikh Jassim Trophy. The match will kick off at 6 PM on Thursday at the Hamad bin Khalifa Stadium of Al-Ahli Club.

The Wolves are in high spirits going into the match as they will look to defend the trophy they won in 2014/15. The same teams are contesting it this year too after Al-Sadd won the Emir Cup and Lekhwiya won the Qatar Stars League in the last season.

The training session on Tuesday saw the participation of all the available players and the technical staff looked to pick the starting XI for the match, which will be a one-off as the teams fight for the first title of the season.

The technical staff focused on skills training during the session before Jesualdo Ferreira made the players fight it out in a competitive practice match between themselves.

Meeting before the session

Head coach Ferreira held a meeting with the team before the start of the session to talk about the importance of the match and winning the first title.

Second match between Al-Sadd and Lekhwiya

As mentioned, this will be a repeat of the Super Cup match last year when Al-Sadd met Lekhwiya in the final and ended up winning it 3-2.

Steven Tedga out of the match

Goalkeeper Steven Tedga was ruled out of the match after picking up a muscle injury in training.

Xavi leads the midfield

Al-Sadd star Xavi Hernandez came up with a top performance during training after completely recovering from his injury and will lead the midfied in the Super Cup match.

Absence of four Olympic players

The four Al-Sadd players who are with the Qatar Olympic team (Ali Asad, Abdelkarim Hassan, Musab Khodr, Muhannad Naim) will also miss the match against Lekhwiya due to their participation in the ongoing AFC U23 Championship taking place in Qatar.

Ferreira and Gaser to attend the press conference

Jesualdo Ferreira and Gaser Yahya are scheduled to attend the pre-match press conference for the Super Cup match. It will start at 12 PM on Wednesday and will be held at the Al-Ahli Club.

Closed camp, squad list

The Wolves will move to the Grand Heritage Hotel for a closed camp after the end of the training session on Wednesday. Later, the head coach will announce the list of probables for the match.
