Al-Sadd drop points after 1-1 draw with Al-Wakrah
Al-Sadd had to be satisfied with just one point after drawing 1-1 with Al-Wakrah in the QSL Round 7 game played at the Saoud bin Abdulrahman Stadium on Sunday.
It was Al-Sadd who scored first with Jugurtha Hamroun netting in the 60th minute before Mouhcine Moutouali equalized with a penalty in the 90th minute.
The result keeps Al-Sadd in the second place with 15 points from 7 games.
Saddawi pressure from the beginning
The match began in an exciting fashion and Al-Sadd almost had an opportunity to put themselves ahead in the first minute itself when Abdelkarim Hassan was brought down in the box. However the referee refused to give a penalty. Al-Wakrah made an impression at the other side with Mouhcine Motouali’s fierce shot that went over the crossbar. Al-Sadd went on to put dominate proceedings in the first quarter of an hour, putting numbers in midfield. In the 14th minute, Hussam Kamal dribbled down the right wing and sent in a cross which was met by Jugurtha Hamroun but the Algerian saw his effort go over the bar.
More attempts from Al-Sadd
Al-Sadd continued to put pressure on the Wakrah goal with attacks from deep and the wings. In the 27th minute, Hamroun got past multiple players and attempted a shot but it went wide of the goal. Xavi then sent in a corner a couple of minutes later to the onrushing Ali Asad whose shit went high and over the crossbar. The score remained 0-0 without any dangerous chances from either side before the referee signalled for halftime.
Al-Haydos replaces Hussam in the second half
Jesualdo Ferreira made his first substitution of the match at the start of the second half by bringing on Hassan Al-Haydos in place of Hussam Kamal. Al-Haydos played on the right wing while Pedro moved on to the right-back position. In the 53rd position, Baghdad Bounedjah almost scored after picking up a pass from Hamroun on the left but his shot was kept out by Wakrah goalie Mohammed Inyass. This was followed by a save by Saad Al-Dosari in the Al-Sadd goal, keeping out the effort of Maher Yousef who had got past the defenders.
Hamroun scores the first goal for Al-Sadd
In the 60th minute, Al-Sadd finally broke the deadlock through Hamroun who scored after Inyass kept out a header from Ali Asad. Just a minute after taking the lead, Al-Sadd made their second substitution by replacing Asad with Salem Al-Hajri, who took his place in midfield alongside Mohammed Kasola.
Moutouali equalizes for Al-Wakrah
Al-Sadd continued to dominate in the match after the first goal, spreading out play well. In the 83rd minute, Ferreira made the final change for Al-Sadd by bringing on forward Meshaal Al-Shammari in place of goalscorer Hamroun. In the 90th minute, the Wolves were dealt a late blow when Al-Wakrah were awarded a penalty. Motouali stepped up and converted to make it 1-1 and that is how the score stayed until the full time whistle a few minutes later.
