Al-Sadd had to be satisfied with a 2-2 draw at home against Umm Salal in their Qatar Stars League Round 2 fixture, which was played on Thursday night. The draw leaves Al-Sadd with four points from two games in the QSL standings.
Umm Salal opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Yannick Sagbo following which Xavi Hernandez equalised for Al-Sadd just after the hour mark. A couple of minutes later, Musab Khodr scored to give Al-Sadd the lead before Nasser Khalfan struck the equaliser for Umm Salal and the final goal of the match in the 84th minute.
A great start
The match started in a great fashion with Al-Sadd dominating proceedings from the first few seconds itself, applying pressure on their opponents and moving well on the pitch. In the 11th minute, Nadir Belhadj attempted a powerful shot from outside the box which was saved by Umm Salal keeper Baba Malick.

Al-Sadd continued to dominate the match with Umm Salal players being kept in their own half defending their goal. In the 17th minute, against the run of play, Umm Salal striker Yannick Sagbo gave his team the lead, after heading in a Rami Fayez cross.
Attempts from Al-Sadd; cautious Umm Salal
The Wolves stepped up its pressure on the Umm Salal goal to find the equaliser as the opponents sat deep and remained cautious. In the 30th minute, Hassan al-Haydos got past Rami Fayez and struck a shot which went just wide of the right post.
Karim rescues Al-Sadd
In the 38th minute, a well-organised move from Umm Salal led to Nasser Khalfan sending in an ideal cross which was thwarted by Abdulkarim Hassan from in front of goal to rescue Al-Sadd. The first half thus ended with the visitors leading 1-0.
Al-Sadd pressure continues
Al-Sadd kept up their efforts to find the elusive equaliser through various attempts while Umm Salal relied on counter attacking moves led by the speedy Sagbo. In the 55th minute, Musab Khodr penetrated down the right and sent in a cross which was cleared by the Umm Salal defence before it got to Muriqui. Four minutes later, al-Haydos had a shot deflect off a defender for a corner.
Xavi equalises; Musab gets the second
In the 62nd minute, Al-Sadd found their equaliser when al-Haydos did well to get in to the box from the left and send a pass to Xavi who made no mistake and got his first goal. Three minutes later, the Spaniard turned provider when he send an aerial ball to Musab who chested it and sent a powerful shot into the net to make it 2-1 to Al-Sadd.
Khalfan replaces Asad; Nasser equalises for Umm Salal
In the 82nd minute, Al-Sadd made its first change, bringing on Khalfan Ibrahim in place of Ali Asad. Umm Salal sought to find an equaliser and their efforts were rewarded in the 84th minute when Nasser al-Khalfan sent a shot into the roof of the net following a squared ball from Sagbo. It proved to be the final goal of the match despite the efforts of Al-Sadd players to get a winner.
